{"id":383,"date":"2009-05-25T13:40:17","date_gmt":"2009-05-25T18:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.motorballer.org\/beyond\/?p=383"},"modified":"2009-05-31T12:21:41","modified_gmt":"2009-05-31T17:21:41","slug":"manga-a-day-3-gunsmith-cats-burst-v3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.motorballer.org\/beyond\/2009\/05\/25\/manga-a-day-3-gunsmith-cats-burst-v3\/","title":{"rendered":"Manga-A-Day 3 &#8211; Gunsmith Cats: Burst v3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Opening with another short, <span class=\"character name\">Rally&#8217;s<\/span> gotten a gig as a firearms instructor at another shooting range and proceeds to school a group of people who have a very Hollywood-based view of handling firearms, explicitly copying <span class=\"name\">Keanu Reeve&#8217;s<\/span> gun-fu in <span class=\"title\">The Matrix<\/span> and the various antics found in <span class=\"name\">John Woo<\/span> movies.  Of course, this gets her fired as the owners <i>want<\/i> their customers to waste ammo (and have to spend more), c&#8217;est la vie.  It was completely extraneous, but there&#8217;s still a nice chunk of practical firearms knowledge to be found within, the movie references were amusing, and it was nicely presented.<\/p>\n<p>Starting off a fresh chunk of storyline, <span class=\"character name\">Rally<\/span> goes shopping for <span class=\"spoiler\">a new car, after sacrificing her beloved GT500 in volume 2<\/span>, and while it isn&#8217;t quite what she&#8217;s looking for, she quickly comes to appreciate it.  Doing so also gives her a new connection that helps get her into an illegal street race where <span class=\"character name\">Bean<\/span> and <span class=\"character name\">Percy<\/span> (the crazy detective from Detroit, in equally crazy disguise) are out for each other&#8217;s blood.  Mostly it seems to be an excuse for <span class=\"name\">Sonoda<\/span> to pour out some love for classic muscle cars (and the odd choice of a pimped out Chevy Astro van o_O), but it also gives him an excuse to use <span class=\"character name\">Riff Raff<\/span> (another transporter from the original run) again.<\/p>\n<p>Crazy driving, insane <span class=\"character name\">Bean<\/span> skills, deal making, and another bit of a standoff ensue, leaving things at another stopping point without a cliffhanger.  This is good because the next volume isn&#8217;t out for months yet and I&#8217;d hate to be stuck waiting in the middle of a sequence.  So that wraps up <span class=\"title\">Gunsmith Cats: Burst<\/span> for now, with the fourth volume solicited for mid-September, and the finale sometime after that.  Hopefully we can get a new edition of <span class=\"title\">Riding Bean<\/span> as well, both because I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve ever read it, and because it would be nice to be able to match it up with the style used on <span class=\"title\">Burst<\/span> and the Omnibuses.
